Framework for K-5 Literacy Instruction at Vinalhaven Elementar School

8:00-8:30                                         
·      Morning Meeting
·      Poem

8:30- 9:00
·      Guided Reading
·      Have a running record for EACH child from EACH group.
·      Create a notebook for running records.
o   A section for each child.
o   Dividers for each child.
o   Progress chart for each child.
o   Post its for anecdotal notes.  
o   At least three guided reading groups.  

At the same time: Centers
o   Poem
o   Free reading good for higher kids
o   Word work/Lexia
o   Write in journals about books

9:00
o   Morning Message
o   Move into literacy piece/writing
o   20-30 minutes of writing in journals:
o   Read Alouds for students to acquire book language and then reflect or try the text structure, themes, connections, etc
o   Pass the writing along to one other to respond to it.
o   Teacher responds to once per week.
o    Doesn't have to be passed in on same day.  
o   Once a month, write about something from your journal.





Running records pass into Robb on Friday.

Analyzed and attached to the graph.

Individual student progress chart passed in at end of each month.

Cherie will help teachers analyze running records.

Robb will obtain timers or teachers may use the online link sent to them on 12.1.

Teachers also have access to the We Share Books to use with the LED projector for read alouds.
